GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the work that helps generative search systems place your company correctly and, when the evidence exists, treat you as a source. It does not replace technical SEO. It sits on top of it.
Classic SEO asks whether a page can be found, understood and listed. GEO also asks whether a model can restate your services, locations and boundaries so a buying question does not default to a competitor.
Three conditions show up in practice. The site must stay crawlable and indexable - for Googlebot and for crawlers that feed training and retrieval corpora. Entity signals must be consistent: the same legal name, addresses and service terms on the site and in reliable third-party sources. The copy must contain citable sentences: defined services, clear service areas, checkable facts instead of slogans.
GEO is not a switch. ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews use different corpora, refresh cycles and citation habits. A hit in one system says little about the next.
For Swiss SMEs the first job is measurement: which commercially relevant questions even produce an answer - in German, French, Italian and English where the market requires it. SOURCE/01 by GlasBox (AI) records mentions and visible sources. It does not promise a citation.
